“Is it Safe to Take Our Family There?”

You may have heard them described as restricted nations, places where missionaries cannot freely enter or openly serve. We think a more accurate term is “Creative Access Nations”—places where workers use creativity to fulfill the Great Commission. Jesus’s command to go into all the world with the gospel did not exclude these places. The heart of God longs for these nations to know His salvation.

Here is one young couple’s story. The Lord burdened them for a Creative Access nation during a short-term trip. As they heard prayer calls five times a day, their hearts grieved that these worshipers had no assurance their deity would save them. But they thought, “Is it safe to take our family there?” After much prayer, they desired more and more to offer up the life God had given them. Even though they had no guarantees of safety and ease, they had God’s promises of grace and His eternal gain on earth and in heaven.

These are the choices missionaries in Creative Access Nations sometimes make. Is it worth it? Considering the high price Christ paid for us and the realities of eternity, we have to admit that even the most difficult task is worth the sacrifice to see just one person saved. Think of Isaiah. When he saw who God really is (Isaiah 6:1-8), it caused him to look inward and then to look outward at the world; it made him want to be sent.

The Bible tells us that in heaven, every tribe, tongue, people, and nation will be represented. How else will that glorious outcome happen other than through missionaries willing to reach into the hard places? Who will knit their hearts with the heart of God, who longs for these nations to know His salvation?

Will you pray that God will knit people’s hearts to His and that He will send them into these fields?

Much of the world’s population resides within the borders of nations that are closed to standard missionary endeavor. With creativity and sensitivity, this missions frontier can be reached.

In recent years, though, there are several fields of Gospel labor where a new vehicle is needed. Whereas Creative Access Nations used to be counted on one hand, more and more nations are difficult to enter long-term with an explicitly religious purpose. What vehicle can get us into some of those fields?
