It’s shocking, but many born-again Christians no longer believe in the Genesis Creation account. If you can’t believe what the Bible says from the beginning, how can you trust what it says about Jesus?
Veteran Peru missionary Bob Whatley (who entered heaven September 13, 2026) was passionate that all people believe the Bible and know the Savior it proclaims. After his beloved wife, Betty, died in 2018, Bob sold all his possessions and returned to Peru in his retirement. At age 86, he pursued his longtime dream—starting a Creation museum showcasing fossils and artifacts he collected during 50+ years in Peru. In 2022, that dream became a reality with the opening of the Museo Fundamentos (Foundations Museum) in Cusco, Peru.
Exploring Creation to the Cross
In addition to Bob’s collection, the museum leads visitors through a timeline of history. As guests move through the museum’s 19 rooms, they learn about the Tower of Babel, ancient civilizations, the Cross, persecution of early believers, the discovery of North and South America, and other events. Special sections highlight Peru’s historical stages from pre-Incan to the present day.
The museum describes its petrified fossils (including mastodon jaws and teeth) and ancient sea shells found high in the Andes Mountains—a phenomenon best explained by the biblical Flood account. In the center of the museum lies the “death room,” which addresses concerns that both ancient civilizations and modern tribal people have about death.
A Witness to the World
Located in Peru’s Sacred Valley of the Incas, the museum attracts visitors from all over the world—many of whom would never set foot in a Bible-teaching church. Museo Fundamentos tailors each exhibit to win the lost and help believers in their defense of the faith. Each visitor learns the biblical account of Creation to the Cross, including the gospel. Within two weeks of the museum’s opening, five visitors (four prisoners from the local jail and a lawyer) made professions of faith.
Bob’s Enduring Legacy
We’re grateful that Cheyenne Davis (appointed with BMM this summer) is raising support to continue this ministry. Bob Whatley’s passion to share God’s truth lives on through the museum and through countless lives he touched across Peru.
