Overnight on October 12, 2016, radical Islamists attacked the city of Kaga Bandoro in northern Central African Republic (CAR). This city was once a major BMM ministry hub that included the Milner Memorial MK School. The school educated numerous BMM MKs, including Dr. Vernon Rosenau (BMM president) and Steve Gault (BMM field administrator for Africa).
Suffering that affects our worldwide family
The attacks directly and severely affected African Christians with close ties to BMM. Islamists murdered two deacons and tortured and killed the elderly widow of a well-known pastor. A church member watching over the house of a local pastor was also killed.
In a swath of destruction, the rebels looted Bible school student housing and the director’s home, throwing grenades into this home and a classroom. This home contained the school library and materials for the entire class year. The Bible school director and students with their families found refuge at Kaga Bandoro’s airstrip, protected by UN soldiers. A grass-roofed shelter has been erected, where the refugees are holding church services.
Comfort for the hurting
The attacks happened to Central Africans already deeply traumatized by the rebel attacks of 2013. The people of CAR greatly need our prayers for comfort and healing that only the Lord can give. Now living as refugees, they also need food, shelter, and other necessities. Churches and the Bible school campus need to be rebuilt and to have supplies replaced. Medical equipment stolen from the dispensary also needs replacing.
Through Baptist Mid-Missions’ World Relief fund, we will help meet the needs of our brothers and sisters in Christ who have stayed faithful in the face of great suffering. We need faithful partners who will stand with them to help them through this time of trauma. Please consider a gift to World Relief to help this effort:
