Hope in the Crisis

A Message from BMM President Vernon L. Rosenau

In the last two months, COVID-19 has gone from an unknown topic in the BMM offices to one we now deal with daily. Praise the Lord, our global Baptist Mid-Missions Family is safe and rejoicing in new opportunities afforded them because of this pandemic. To rejoice because of COVID-19 might seem paradoxical, but the BMM Family has found that, in the midst of turmoil and fear of the unknown, hearts are open to a message of hope. We who know Christ have that message of hope that our world needs. It is exciting to read of the new opportunities our Mission Family is finding for the entrance of the gospel.

We’ve weathered crises before

This year, BMM is celebrating 100 years of ministry. As we review those 100 years, we can identify many other crises of this magnitude that our Mission Family has faced and weathered. Were they difficult? Yes! But our peace in the midst of turmoil, then as now, is based on God’s promises, which are never changing.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

—Philippians 4:6-7

A time of opportunity

Baptist Mid-Missions is seeing the hand of the Lord moving and opening new doors of opportunity for the gospel today just as He has for the last 100 years. As those doors open, the BMM Family is prepared to walk through them with prudent awareness of the situation and faith in our eternal God, who has given us an eternal message.

Unhindered in our services

Our operations have not been hindered by the Stay at Home order issued by the governor of Ohio. We had in fact been planning for a scenario such as this and had begun to switch our staff to remote locations. As of today, we are pleased that the Lord has allowed us to sustain all services to our Mission Family and our donor partners from remote locations without any interruptions.

God is good and His peace—which is beyond understanding—sustains our hearts each and every day. Our prayer is that you will also find and know the peace that only He can give.

Truly by grace alone,

Vernon
