Uphold

As the day wore on, Moses struggled to hold up his hands.

In the valley below, Joshua was fighting desperately against the Amalekites, Israel’s fierce and ruthless enemy. If God’s people were to reach the Promised Land, this overwhelming threat had to be eliminated. When Moses held his hands high to the Lord, Joshua gained the victory. But when his hands grew heavy, the battle suddenly reversed

In that critical moment, what Moses desperately needed was support. Standing by his side, Aaron and Hur held up his hands so that Moses stayed steady. The Bible declares the outcome: “So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword” (Exodus 17:13).

The simple act of upholding Moses won the battle for the Israelites. That same principle applies for missionaries as well. Their work is a real battle for the souls of people. Just like Moses, they need others to stand with them until the battle is won. In this issue of Advance, read the stories of people who are upholding missions using their abilities and resources, whether great or small. With passion and sacrifice, they are helping missionaries win the victory.
