The Work of His Hands 3

A NEW DEVELOPMENT IN PERU

It is almost unheard of for a church plant in Peru to have its own building from the outset. Peruvians simply don’t have the financial resources to make that happen. But the impossible happened with Moche Baptist Church, a daughter church planted by a Peruvian missionary and Jon and Julie Stilwell in a suburb of Trujillo, Peru.

A Peruvian real estate developer attends a sister church that is also helping plant the daughter church. In the developer’s new housing addition in Moche, he dedicated part of the land to the Lord and gave it to the church. On it, he built the church’s three-story building. The Peruvian working alongside the Stilwells is serving as the church-planting pastor.

ARRIBA UPDATE

In May, Anna Tebbenkamp and Rachel Haefka were the first interns to complete BMM’s Arriba program after it moved from Peru to Chile under new leaders James and Coletta Morsey. This 11-month college internship program had its share of growing pains as everyone adjusted to a new ministry in a new location, but Anna and Rachel had many opportunities to serve through evangelistic Bible studies, community outreach, and church ministries. The program gave excellent in-depth exposure to missions in Latin American culture.

Arriba’s second cohort of students arrived in late May. Known as the “3Ds,” David Garcia, Demi Del Prior, and Dustin Lesuer are now in the practical ministry portion of their internship as they serve in the Morseys’ churches.

MINISTRY RETURNS TO CREATIVE ACCESS NATION

Fifty years ago, BMM church-planting missionaries made a long-term impact in this Muslim-majority nation. Although national believers eventually assumed leadership of their church plants, all BMM missionaries left for a variety of reasons.

Their departure ended BMM’s church planting efforts for decades until a new missionary family developed a burden to reach this nation for Christ. They arrived on-field five years ago, and God burdened others in the meantime. This year, the field grew to six missionaries. Our newest workers are burdened for unreached people groups, with one couple also interested in training nationals.
