The Sweetness in Waiting

After eight years of diligent ministry, the BMM church planting team in Logroño, Spain, was finally ready to move their growing congregation into a building of its own. The property suited their needs perfectly, and by the end of 2024, the Lord wonderfully provided funds for a debt-free purchase. Just in time, they received governmental tax ID status, trimming 7% sales tax from their purchase. On top of that, the seller gave them a €10,000 discount.

The process had moved smoothly up to that point, but renovations were the last hurdle before move in. The team (Jonathan and Hannah Romaine, Caleb and Sarah Burdett, and Tim and Pam Darling) applied for building permits six months earlier but knew that months of waiting could still lie ahead. It would have been culturally acceptable to simply begin renovations and pay fines later. But the team used the waiting season to show their congregation that God is holy and good and can be trusted.

The wait was long and wearying—a full year—but they waited with purpose. The team held biblical counseling training to better equip the church in the sufficiency of God’s Word. They worked through painful issues within their body of believers, including the tragic death of a church member. Shortly after this, in July 2025, the church was granted its building permits.

The long wait was finally over, and Logroño Baptist Church emerged stronger in the end. The Lord used—and continues to use—their waiting seasons to create greater church unity and stronger reverence for their Savior and His truths. The church now has its first deacon. Its ladies’ ministry is thriving, with additional women serving in children’s ministries. More people are finding the Lord, being baptized, and uniting with the church.

Church planting is sometimes referred to as “birthing a church.” And just as with a woman in pregnancy, the painful wait makes the outcome all the sweeter.
