Subash and Sandra have experienced all sides of missions. Subash grew up in India with the rich heritage of parents and grandparents who served in missions, pastoral ministry, and theological education. On the other side of the world, Sandra was saved and discipled through missionaries in her homeland of Uruguay. And together they served as India missionaries for 15 years, engaged in every facet of church planting and leadership training.

For most of their lives, missions was Plan A—really the only thing they ever expected to do. So in 2009, when unforeseen circumstances brought the Muthyalas back to the US (where they met in Bible college), Subash and Sandra looked for the Lord to open a new avenue of missions. When that opening did not materialize, they worked at various jobs to support their family. All the while, they kept their eyes open for God’s next missions opportunity.

In 2022, Subash and Sandra were interested when their pastor told them about Bibles International (BI), BMM’s Bible society. This multifaceted ministry advances Christ’s worldwide church through reliable Bible translation supported by literacy, training, and publishing services. BI’s Director, Tim F, told the Muthyalas about needs within BI’s home office, including the area of Advancement. Subash and Sandra had always found this aspect of missions exciting—sharing what God is doing around the world and inviting others to advance ministries through financial partnership. 

This was the ministry the Muthyalas had prayed for. Their new roles within BI encompass relationship building with churches and individuals by presenting BI’s ministries and opportunities. Although this missions ministry looks very different from their traditional missionary roles in India, Subash and Sandra know that it is just as vital: “Even when we were missionaries on the front line, we couldn’t have done it without our mission’s home office. They freed us to do the work God has called us to do. That is the beauty of the Body of Christ working together to accomplish the Great Commission.”
