Sending Church: First Baptist Church of Bridgeport—Saginaw, Michigan
Stephanie had just graduated from high school when Bibles International (BI) missionaries came to her church to talk about their Scripture translation consultant work. Stephanie had no idea there were so many people in the world still waiting for the Bible in their own languages. As the BI missionaries described their work, Stephanie thought, that is the coolest thing ever!
Having a giftedness for languages, Stephanie began volunteering for Bibles International while she earned her bachelor’s degree. She went on to earn a master’s degree in biblical languages in 2019. Step by step, God led her toward this work as a full-time vocation, and she is now ready to raise support to become a career missionary with BMM’s Bible society, Bibles International.
During her 10 years volunteering with BI, she has worked on several projects, including the Luxembourgish Bible translation. Stephanie was shocked that the Europeans of Luxembourg never had a Bible of their own. Many can read Bibles in French or German, but Luxembourgish is their mother tongue.
After the Luxembourgish New Testament dedication ceremony in 2017, Stephanie noticed a man intently reading his newly translated Bible. He exclaimed, “I finally understand the book of Romans!” It made sense in ways he never grasped from reading the Bible in other languages. When the New Testament was dedicated, there were only 100-150 Luxembourgish-speaking believers in the country. Since then, the church has grown in evangelistic passion and actively distributes Bibles. Unsaved people who never took an interest in the Bible are eagerly reading the Luxembourgish Bible—and getting saved and discipled. The number of believers has grown to 600-650.
Stephanie is the primary translation consultant for the Luxembourgish Old Testament. As a career missionary, she will be able to devote her full attention to the Luxembourgish Old Testament and assist in other projects, especially in a Creative Access Nation. God is stirring an unprecedented harvest in Luxembourg. Stephanie is convinced that God’s Word is powerful and sufficient to transform lives in Luxembourg—and everywhere it’s available.
