For decades I looked forward to Paul Harvey’s daily newscast. But even more than Harvey’s commentary on the daily news, I savored his “The Rest of the Story” broadcasts. Paul was remarkably skilled at catching his listeners’ attention by telling a story that ended with an amazing twist—“the rest of the story.”
Isaiah 52:7 and its abbreviated paraphrase in Romans 10:15 begin with an attention-grabbing statement, “How beautiful are the feet.” That grabs my attention because when I think of feet, I do not think of beauty. Frankly, I think of feet as being ugly and smelly. There must be more to this story, right? There is! The kind of feet that are beautiful are those that bring good news, the good news of salvation through Christ.
This issue of Advance introduces you to several people who fit that description. You will read about our most recently appointed missionaries as well as those who attended Launch Seminar because they have almost completed prefield ministry. In addition, you will be introduced to two exceptional individuals who have exemplified “beautiful feet” gospel ministry. I pray that their stories will delight your heart and broaden your vision as you read them.
In July 2020, Dr. Patrick Odle became Baptist Mid-Missions’ ninth president. He came to his position with 26 years of pastoral experience and eight years as a BMM Council member, along with service as a vice president of Faith Baptist Bible College and Theological Seminary.
For the joy set before Him, Jesus endured the cross to redeem mankind. We look to his example as we run the race of missions. Whatever your role in missions, run your race with faith and endurance—joy is at the finish line!
