“When I hear missionaries speak about opportunities on their fields, I want to go! I wish that were possible, but what my wife, Deb, and I can do is challenge younger people to go.”
Kids, teens, and young adults have their entire lives ahead of them—rich potential to bring Christ’s gospel to the world. That’s the potential Kel and Deb are excited about as BMM Missions Mobilizers. It’s a passion shared with their team members Glen and Tammy Galbraith. These couples represent BMM at a variety of venues, sharing from their experiences and insights as they challenge people with ways to fulfill the Great Commission.
After nearly 30 years as Brazil church planters, the McMasters jumped into their new assignment in 2025, and the Galbraiths joined in 2026. Glen and Tammy also come with a wealth of missions experience, having served for almost 25 years planting churches in Scotland and England.
As Missions Mobilizers, the McMasters focus on college students. Covering the eastern US, Kel and Deb rack up many miles visiting Bible colleges. Through conversations at their display table, over lunch, or during missions retreats, the McMasters challenge students to think seriously about how God could use them in missions.
They introduce students to BMM programs such as FIRSTLOOK, an internship that plugs students into
real-world missions in places such as Minnesota, France, Ghana, Cambodia, and Honduras, or with Bibles International, BMM’s Bible society. Students who are already serious about missions learn about short-term opportunities worldwide.
Kel and Deb love these opportunities because they hosted interns when they served in Brazil. Deb says, “Kel and I can look back and think of people who encouraged us toward missions. We’re on the other side now, and we can be that to the next generation.”
The Galbraiths’ territory is the western US, a region where fewer people are familiar with Baptist Mid-Missions. They are working to introduce BMM to churches, colleges, camps, and other ministries. Glen and Tammy have a special burden for children because each of them was reached for Christ when they were kids. The Galbraiths know that most missionaries were first drawn to missions when they were between 10 and 12 years old. Glen says, “Seeing little kids getting excited about missions is super rewarding.” Tammy adds, “My burden is to encourage young adults to remember the commitments they once made to missions.”
Even if a child or young adult surrenders to God’s leading, the world’s voice is loud and full of the enemy’s lies: “Missions is just too hard,” “Serving in certain countries is too dangerous,” or “I’ll never be able to provide for my family on a missions salary.” Our Missions Mobilizers come alongside people as coaches, helping them find confidence and guidance to pursue missions.
When younger people stand in front of veteran missionaries like the Galbraiths and McMasters, they see firsthand that God takes care of His servants, and difficulties they encounter will truly be worth it in the end. It’s just like Jim Elliot’s famous journal entry (written when he was 22): “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”
The McMasters and Galbraiths aren’t limited to children and students. Anywhere that missions-minded people are gathered, our Missions Mobilizers can inform, encourage, equip, and challenge people to make the Great Commission an integral part of their lives and ministries. They would love to have a conversation with you!
