Sending Church: Available upon request
Megan’s childhood dream was to live in a home and have neighborhood friends. It was a dream unfulfilled as she grew up with continual homelessness. From the time Megan was five years old, she often didn’t know where her family’s next meal would come from. Amazingly, God used her experiences to teach her to trust in Him and to develop a heart of compassion for others. “There are people in the world who don’t have the hope that God will take care of them,” Megan says. “I think about how unbearable life would be without that hope.”
She was born into a family that attended church when she was younger. Hearing the gospel, Megan received Jesus’s gift of salvation. But when her family gradually stopped attending, so did she. At age 21, she visited her grandparents where she also worked alongside other Christians for several months. Being surrounded with fellowship convicted her that she needed to be back in a church. It also made her think, maybe I could serve God and do something for Him?
Megan came to believe that the Great Commission is for every follower of Christ, and the truth of Romans 10:14 weighed heavily on her: How will people hear the gospel without someone going to them? As she kept her heart open to the “going,” God led her to interrupt her nursing studies to pursue a year of teaching in a Creative Access Nation. It took a great deal of faith to do something that could have derailed her future career, but she trusted God’s leading.
After she returned to finish her degree, Megan found herself missing her host nation and its people. She knows God is leading her to return there as a Global Fit missionary. The shape of her future ministry is in God’s hands, but she hopes to use her nursing degree in some way as she serves alongside nationals in relationship-building and assists in church planting. Megan’s dream is different now, but even better: to offer people the bedrock hope of her Savior and a forever home with Him.
