Sending Church: First Baptist Church—Hartford, Wisconsin
Cheyenne knew her 11 months in Peru with BMM’s Arriba internship would be life changing—she didn’t realize how life changing. The pivotal moment came when veteran missionary Bob Whatley drew her and the other interns aside, saying, “I want to show you this ministry.” For the next three hours, the group was mesmerized as Bob showed them fossils and ancient Peruvian artifacts he had collected through the years. “I’m making a Creation museum,” Bob said, “but I need someone to take over the ministry.” Cheyenne thought, this is too good to be true!
Several years earlier, she had surrendered her childhood dream of becoming an archaeologist, believing God had a different direction for her. In Bible college, she studied social studies with a minor in Spanish, enrolling in Arriba to finish her degree. She planned to teach after graduation, but now she realized the Lord wasn’t keeping her from her dream. Instead, He was showing her how to use it for His life-changing purposes.
After completing her internship, Cheyenne returned to Peru in 2024 to solidify God’s calling on her life. That trip showed her even more ways God wanted to use her. As a career missionary, her overarching goal is to build up Peruvian churches through a multifaceted ministry using her gifts of teaching, music, and discipleship.
The Creation museum will anchor her ministry. Located in Peru’s Sacred Valley, the museum attracts Peruvians and tourists from all over the world—many who would never set foot in a Bible-teaching church. As visitors discover the veracity of the book of Genesis, they learn that the entire Bible is trustworthy and points to the gospel message, which the museum carefully communicates. The museum also strengthens Peruvian believers to defend the Bible and their faith. Cheyenne says, “If you can’t believe what the Bible says about Creation, how can you trust what it says about Jesus?”
All her life, Cheyenne has had a heart to serve her Lord. Through this multifaceted ministry to build up churches in Peru, she is ready to be used for God’s life-changing purposes.
