Spanish Literature Division of Baptist Mid‑Missions
Editorial Bautista Independiente (EBI), the Spanish literature ministry of Baptist Mid-Missions, is a publisher committed to the production and distribution of biblically based Spanish literature. Our publications include Sunday School materials, Theological Education by Extension (TEE) studies, Theological Curriculum (University-level), textbooks for Bible schools and seminaries, devotional books, Bible commentaries, specialized books declaring the distinct biblical beliefs of Baptist churches (discipleship publications), gospel tracts, Christian books for adults and children, and books dealing with the issues of the day. In addition, EBI also carries quality publications from other publishers, including Spanish Bibles. This allows the ministry to provide a complete line of biblically sound literature products for Spanish-speaking missionaries and nationals.
The specific purposes of Editorial Bautista Independiente are to:
• Assist Hispanic churches in the fulfillment of the Great Commission through the creation, publication and distribution of biblically based materials.
• Serve all truly evangelical churches in the Hispanic world, fundamental Baptist churches in particular, in the specialized fields closely related to our literature production and distribution, for example, Sunday School consultation and literary, journalistic, and pastoral training seminars.
• Actively promote the missionary indigenous principle. Through literature and ministry, EBI will work with missionaries and maturing Hispanic churches to encourage the growth of national leadership.
EBI’s Ministry Team consists of 16 career missionaries and 2 BMM retirees: Bruce and Lisa Burkholder, Gary and Bernice Hilliker, Darrel and Lori Jingst, Richard and Sheila Meyer, Gary and Wilma Sammons, Phil and Dianne Schmitt, Max and Louise Lanz, Marv Stephens, Helen Wing, Beulah Pinkston, and Margaret Tolosa. They are responsible not only for all of the editing, printing, and distribution of publications but also for the writing and compiling of materials for the Theological Curriculum.
In 1960, missionaries Rev. Charles and Dr. Mary Cook, convinced of the need for a Spanish literature ministry, transferred from Peru to Puerto Rico to begin this vital ministry. In 1981, EBI moved from Puerto Rico to Florida and, after several moves to larger facilities, settled into its current building, which houses all aspects of the ministry. God has worked wonderfully in providing funds for the growth of this debt-free ministry.
As EBI continues to grow and expand its ministry, there is a continual demand for additional team members. If you would be interested in serving with this exciting international ministry, please contact VW Peters, Baptist Mid-Missions’ Field Administrator for EBI, at vpeters@bmm.org or contact the office of the publishing house at info@ebi-bmm.org.
