Dr. Marcelo often wondered why it took 42 years before he found Christ as his Savior. He had been led to the Lord as an adult through the influence of Ernie and Carol Mason and Ronald and Christine Self, the Masons’ missionary colleagues in Argentina. A recent event helped Marcelo see how God could redeem what seemed to be wasted years.
Eighteen years ago when he was a young doctor, Marcelo treated a seriously ill baby named Paola. Several surgeries were necessary to treat Paola, who was born without an esophagus. Marcelo had the joy of being instrumental in saving her life.
Paola’s family later moved to Chile, and Marcelo lost all contact with the family. In 2008, Paola, now 18 and living in Buenos Aires, took it upon herself to look up the doctor who saved her life so long ago. Tracking down Marcelo at his hospital, they had a very emotional reunion.
With much to get caught up on, Marcelo took the opportunity to share with Paola how he had come to know Christ as his Savior. As a result, Marcelo was able to lead Paola to the Lord! She and her father attended church, and he also received Christ.
Andrew Self, the son of the missionaries who led Marcelo to the Lord, serves with BMM with his wife, Romina, and they plan to start a church in Marcelo’s town. Andrew and Marcelo marvel at how great it was for God to use Marcelo to help save Paola’s life both physically and eternally!
