What is a mission board?
Actually, we prefer the term “mission agency” since "board" implies a measure of autonomy that may not be appropriate. The mission agency is an organization whose expert personnel carry out Great Commission work around the world. The agency has field personnel on the mission fields and a small number of home office personnel to enable them to remain there. The purpose, personnel, and resources all come from the local churches, which created the agency to serve on their behalf. Most mission administrators have previously served on a mission field and know well the kinds of problems that missionaries confront. Baptist Mid-Missions is primarily a church-planting mission but has other ministries that facilitate that objective: Bible translation, seminaries, aviation, broadcasting, publishing, camping, hospitals, MK schools, etc., in appropriate locations.
